Featured Interview With Janna Ariane Lorenzo
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I am a 17 year old girl who lives in Cerritos, CA. I am American-Filipino and identify as a Pacific Islander depending on the situation. I have four dogs, three of them chihuahua mixes and one German Shepard. My dog is a pug/chihuahua and I strongly believe he has autism. I enjoy spending my free time adventuring or writing.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
Growing up, I never considered being a writer. But last year, I was going through a very difficult time with my family and my mind. At the time, I was also going through my first heartbreak and I didn’t know how to cope correctly and chose to do the wrong things. During this time, my best friend was taking a creative writing class and he read the beginning lines of one of the chapters in Just Play Along and told me that I have potential in becoming a writer. I wrote Just Play Along in a guy’s perspective so that I could understand the reasons why my first love did what he did and left me. Writing this book did help me become more aware of the world around me as well as answered all of my ridiculous questions running through my mind.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I love to read crime, mystery, romance, suspense, horror, or thriller. Reading these genres helped me figure out what I want to become in the future: a criminal psychologist. Throughout high school, I had a passion for pharmacy and I wanted to become a pharmacist. But as time went on, I realized that I actually want to understand what’s going on through criminal’s minds.
My writings are inspired by John Green and Sarah Dessen. A few of my peers and teachers have told me that my writing style is a lot like their’s, as I include serious yet comedic situations.
I am currently going through the greatest literature phase. My favorite authors at the moment is Louisa May Alcott and Edgar Allen Poe
Tell us a little about your latest book?
Just Play Along follows 22 year old, Dylan Simons, as he finishes his undergrad education. But as Valentine’s Day comes along, he struggles to focus on his school work as flashbacks and memories of his first and last serious relationship starts to arise. His roommate, Alex, helps Dylan get back into the dating world and brings him to a Valentine’s Day party where Dylan runs into someone he see’s his future in.
