Featured Interview With Isaac Rubio
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was born in Colombia on May 31, 1987. Since I was a child, I was interested in art and literature, so I decided to study illustration at the Barranquilla District Academy of Arts.
Also, my passion has always been to create stories and convey emotions to people, which is why I love my work in film and TV because I can exploit my skills as a creator and artist.
I started working as an Illustrator in renowned advertising agencies such as Leo Burnett and Lowe SSP3 and then continue as an animator in animation studios in Bogota. Quickly my work became known in various international companies and I had the opportunity to work on projects for Cartoon Network such as the animated series “Gemini8”, by TV Pinguim, Brazil, “Les p´tits diables”, “Les sisters” by Studio Redfrog, France, and the video game “Royal defenders” of Dena, Japan, among others.
My work as an Illustrator has been recognized in the book “Pictoria3: The best contemporary Illustrators worldwide” and I have been a key piece as a Lead animator in large audiovisual productions such as “Dr. Ruth”, “Floyd Norman: an animated life” and “Sonic mania adventures. ”
In 2015 I wrote with Michelle Giraldo, the children’s book series “My Little Piggy” and I currently live in the city of Los Angeles, CA with my wife and 4-year-old daughter.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
Since I was 5 years old, I have been passionate about picture books, comics, universal literature, history books, fantasy, etc. This combined with my love for art made me want to become storytelling. My school notebooks were always full of stories and drawings, which is why I decided to immerse myself in the world of animation in the early years of my adolescence.
I was fascinated by the magic of cinema, and being part of every production process, from the scripting process, storyboarding to animation.
Over time, my habits have not changed, although I work as a Lead animator in the Hollywood industry, my notebooks are full of numerous stories and scripts.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
It is very difficult to answer this question, I’m passionate about all kinds of genres, fiction, nonfiction, biographies, history, thrillers. I have a lot of appreciation and admiration for writers like Michael Ende, Rafael Pombo, and Gabriel G. Marquez.
Tell us a little about your latest book?
Finance is a topic, for parents, complicated to explain their children.
In addition, the issue of money for young children is full of taboos because we think they are not yet ready to handle it. This is why my wife Michelle Giraldo and I decided to create the collection of “My Little Piggy” books, fun and fanciful stories about money, which explain the importance of money in society, origin and some basic financial concepts, not forgetting the basic principles of our society such as love, friendship, and teamwork that are key to healthy and responsible growth.
