Featured Interview With Francis H Powell
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I live in France, Moret sur Loing, close to Fontainebleau and about fifty minutes by train from Paris.
I was born in Reading in Britain. I lived a lot of my adult life abroad. I have a wonderful dog called Bertie, who is a rescue dog. The only problem is, he doesn’t like other dogs!
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I suppose when I was sent away to a boarding school. I started writing when I was living in Paris. I started writing short stories.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I like Roald Dahl. I like quite a range of different genres. I am inspired by different things, with my present book, it was a drawing my son did.
Tell us a little about your latest book?
It’s a children’s book, but it can be enjoyed also by adults. It is called The Fish King and the Two Wise Ghosts. It is full of quirky fishy characters and is about a king who can’t find a suitable wife and who meets some unsuitable would-be queens along the way. The second part of the book is about his son and his adventures. It took me a year to write and to create the images that go with it. There are over 30 images that go with the book. I wrote it as a long poem at first, then decided it should be changed to prose, then decided I wanted to keep some of the poetry.
