Featured Interview With Frances Hoelsema
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was born and raised a Michigander! My whole life I’ve spent within the vicinity of Zeeland/Holland, which is close to Lake Michigan and roughly 40 minutes to Grand Rapids. This is where I met my husband, and where we are now raising our two boys. We do have two fur babies (male cats) that we all love to pieces.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I began reading at a young age and was always considered an advanced reader. In third grade I was already at an eighth grade level. By the time I was 10/11 I was reading books by Danielle Steele and Mary Higgins Clark. I’ve always loved to read, and for the most part, any genre works for me. As far as writing, however, I started in my late twenties. I had nudges to start much sooner, but never went with my gut until much later. I wish I had started sooner though!
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
So genre doesn’t matter to me. I’ve read my fair share of mysteries, romances, thrillers, etc. One thing I’m not a fan of is sci-fi. Out of all these, romances are my favorite, and it’s mostly romances that I write about. I love Danielle Steele, Mary Higgins Clark, Nicholas Sparks, Stephen King; pretty much most of the big names. But the one author I just can’t stay away from for sure is Julie Lessman. My husband bought one of her novels for me one year, and I instantly fell in love with her writing. I love how she can intertwine passion and Christianity. I’d say she’s the biggest inspiration.
Tell us a little about your latest book?
My newest book that will be coming out in a couple of weeks is the second in my Neighbors series. It’s called Next Door Neighbors, and revolves around two neighbors falling in love. There’s a lot of pain, passion and pursuit mixed in, making for an excellent read. It’s completely standalone from my first novel, Growing Up Neighbors.
