Featured Interview With Dr Trina Boice
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I’m a university professor, author coach, #1 best-selling author of 31 nonfiction books, mom of 4 awesome sons, film critic at MovieReviewMom.com, and ice cream lover. My podcast is called “Daily Inspirational Quote With Trina Boice” and I create online courses at LifelongLearningEducation.com
Helping other authors launch their books to #1 is what I love doing at FromBook2Business.com.
I currently live in Las Vegas but was raised in California with my twin sister and other siblings. One of my undergraduate degrees is in International Relations, so I’m thrilled that one of my sons married a lovely girl from Hong Kong, and two of my other sons are dating great girls from Cuba and Denmark! My oldest son married an American and invented the popular LDS dating app “Mutual.”
We did have a dog, some foster kittens, and 2 birds, but not anymore. So sad!
I was a political correspondent at KPBS in San Diego and won an award for my international service. If I told you what I really do, I’d have to kill you.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I always knew I’d be a writer when I was a little girl. I just didn’t know exactly what I’d be writing about! I started collecting inspiring quotes and ideas for my books when I was only 7 years old. I kept them in a little box, which grew into dozens of filing cabinets full of content. Thank goodness we can now scan documents into our computer now! I’ve always loved clever wordplay, foreign languages, and different ways of communicating. Would you believe I actually liked diagramming sentences in middle school? My kids think I’m such a nerd. They’re right.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I’ve read many books that had a powerful influence on me, but I’m also inspired by living authors who are out there creating books, engaging their readers, and living their dream. That energy definitely rubs off on me and I want to do more! I love reading nonfiction because I’m always trying to improve my habits, but I also love sinking my teeth into a delicious fiction story that sweeps me away. Because of my love for storytelling, I became a film critic at MovieReviewMom.com
I usually have several books on my bedside table that I’m reading simultaneously! Right now, I’m reading an adorable book about “Hygge”, which is a wonderful concept I was introduced to on my first trip to Denmark. It’s a word that describes that cozy, warm feeling when you’re sitting by a fire, drinking hot chocolate, surrounded by loved ones. I’m trying to create more of those kinds of magical moments in my life.
Tell us a little about your latest book?
“The Ultimate Guide to Mystery Shopping: How To Get Paid To Eat, Shop, & Play”. I’ve been doing mystery shopping for many years in three different states where I’ve lived and I still get a kick out of it! Companies pay me to pretend to be a “real” customer while I’m evaluating a restaurant, store, theme park, hotel, or some other venue. I make money and get free merchandise. What’s not to love? People ask me about it all of the time, so I finally wrote a guidebook and an online course to show others how to get paid to eat, shop, and play!
