Featured Interview With Donald Wilson II
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
Hello everyone! I am a New York City native and I was raised and currently live in Westchester County, NY. I love being a writer and creating new stories for people to enjoy. My main genre is young adult, but I’ll be branching out into new literary genres soon.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I knew that I wanted to be a writer by the age of eight after I created my first graphic novel. I would read various books and watch TV shows and kept thinking that I would have done things differently. After that, I started creating my own stories. It’s now a passion.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I have a ton of authors I like to read. Some of them are George RR Martin, John Green, Veronica Roth, Dan Brown, and James Patterson. That’s a REALLY small sampling of who I like to read.
My favorite genre is young adult and action-adventure stories. Thrillers are really great reads.
There are a lot of upcoming authors having great success, especially in the young adult genre, they inspire me.
Tell us a little about your latest book?
Cross Roads follows Shawna, a young homeless teenager from New York City, who becomes the target of sinister group of creatures. She comes in contact with the only group capable of protecting her and decides to join them. Shawna’s tale is one of friendship, family, love and loss.
Shawna is one of the more interesting characters I have had the pleasure to create. She is extremely intelligent, but often lets her emotions get the best of her. She also struggles with fitting in and finding her way in the world, something we can all relate to. I wanted to make sure that protagonist was a strong, female character.
Cross Roads took me almost a year to complete. There were some pretty interesting battles between me and my editor and she won them all. I’m okay with that because she was right (most of the time). Cross Roads is the first book in what will be a trilogy.
