Featured Interview With Debjeet Mukherjee
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I am a postgraduate student of economics at the University of Calcutta. I like books, writing, reading, adventure movies, RnB music and food!
I was raised and schooled in and around Kolkata, India. This is my current city as well.
I do not have pets.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
My fascination with books started early. Around age 10 maybe. I love books so much that I never mark them with pen or pencil. Haha.
I started writing at age 12. I scribbled stuff at the back of my school notebooks and then I used to tear those pages and gift it to my English teachers. My teachers at school were my first and earliest readers. I decided to become a writer when I was 14 years old. There was this English teacher of mine who used to support me above everyone else. While others read my work, she provided a critique. And then one day when I presented her a poem, she scolded me! Like literally she scolded me. I was surprised and confused. And then she went on to state that she had seen many future Keats and Shelley’s of India all lost in the rat race of higher studies. She feared that I will end up doing the same. So I made a promise that day that I will not quit writing and surely gift India the first Debjeet Mukherjee!
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
My favorite authors are Paulo Coelho and Khaled Hosseini.
I do not have a favorite genre as such and I read a wide range of books but I like reading poetry, short stories and adventures.
As far as inspiration is concerned, I am inspired reading the works of Paulo Coelho and when it comes to inspiration from an author as a person, I am more inspired by Vikram Seth although I never had the opportunity to meet him. I just love reading that man’s biography.
Tell us a little about your latest book?
My latest book is my debut international e-book “VOYAGES Volume I – A Collection of Poetry”. The e-book was reviewed and rated Five Stars by Readers’ Favorite, USA and garnered favorable positive feedback from authors, bloggers and reviewers around the world. The e-book received a Gold Star in TheBookDesigner.com’s September 2018 e-Book Cover Design Awards. The book also received some important editorial reviews from Canadian poets and editors. A few were delayed due to Christmas and New Year Celebrations and therefore I am expecting some more reviews and awards early 2019. The response from my readers have been tremendous as well. I am grateful for their love, affection and support.
