Featured Interview With Craig Copeland
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
Raised in Los Angeles, but have lived in eight different states in the U.S. and three overseas. My dog, North was an aussie shepherd. Greatest dog on the planet. Knew over thirty different sign language gestures.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
At nine I was given Othello by my mother. Didn’t completely understand it, but it kind of read like a thriller. From there I was hooked. Wanted to be a writer. Started with poetry, then later moved on to short stories. In my twenties to earn a living I became an advertising copywriter, then later a magazine copywriter. I wrote my first book in my thirties.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I always think this question is like asking what my favorite music is. How much time do we have? I started by reading a lot of fiction and sciFi, which really got my imagination working. Later, books that were written so beautifully like Prince of Tides, White Oleander, I Know Why Caged Birds Sing. Later, when I realized that a lot of my beliefs were really imparted to me, I began to question and challenge everything, so I started to become a researcher and read more factual books on people, moments in history, and how things (really) work. Now, I am all over the place: My Life in France, Julia Child, Hail Mary, Andy Weir, NeuroTribes, Steve Silberman, Bewilderment, Richard Powers…
Tell us a little about your latest book?
Disruptors: The Gateway to Genius Level Thinking is about how we have gone from a society of disruptive intuitive thinkers to become a society of rational thinkers who chase money, fame, and social acceptance. The book is about how we all still have this genius Disruptor inside of us and how to tap into and reacquaint ourselves with our more powerful genius-level thinking. It shows that genius is not IQ and that anyone can regain their most powerful thinking.
