Featured Interview With Courtney Lillard
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I am originally from Wisconsin, but traveled around the Midwest with my husband for school and am currently in Nebraska. I earned both my B.A. and M.A. in Communication Studies and began writing fantasy shortly after. The Dark Angel series is my first adventure as an author. My writing buddy is my adopted cat, Scarlett.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I believe it was in seventh grade when I picked up Mercedes Lackey’s book, Take a Thief, that I realized how impactful books can be as you begin growing up. I didn’t begin writing until 2018, just after I graduated college. However, the ideas I had developed over the last decade, so I needed to put them to paper.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
Before I became an author and started doing ARC and BETA reading, I mainly read Mercedes Lackey and the classics, like The Great Gatsby, To Kill a Mockingbird, A Tale of Two Cities, etc. I also enjoyed Eragon and think my writing is most reflective of that series. Now, I’ve expanded my view of fiction and fantasy books and find that reading helps me develop more as an author.
Tell us a little about your latest book?
The Puppet’s Blight is the third book in my series, The Dark Angel, and continues the story of a dark mage who is forced to serve the kingdom because she wields demonic magic. In this book, she loses her ability to wield magic and must find the demon who granted her that power in order to get it back.
