Featured Interview With Chris Courtney Martin
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I’m originally from Philadelphia, PA. I’ve spent several years in Los Angeles chasing the silver screen leg of my career, but I’m now relaxing in my father’s place in Fayetteville, NC. It’s something of my safe space.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I’ve been reading about as long as I can remember. Certainly, since before kindergarten. But I mark the beginning point of my love affair with words at about eight years old. I did a cute little Horror-Comedy story about Dracula, the Mummy and the Wolfman in a footrace. Self-illustrated and all.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
Toni Morrison is my favorite. The gothic tone with which she wrote Beloved colors my tastes in just about every category– books, film/TV, even music.
Tell us a little about your latest book?
THE BOOK OF I.P. (Idle Poems) is a hybrid poetry and essay collection that is ‘ironic in concept, sincere in content’ as it deconstructs prescribed best-practices for getting ideas greenlit as a screenwriter and what it means to possess a producible story. The short book contains 30 poetic odes to my “screenstory wish-list” and 2 personal memoir-style essays based on my real life.
