Featured Interview With Chloe Coontz
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was raised in a big city of southern Italy, where I still live despite planning to move abroad. I don’t personally have pets, but there is never a shortage of these in my family.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I started reading books very early in life, beginning with comics and illustrated books. I think it happened when I was 5-6. Unfortunately, I can’t recall when I started writing, but it took me many years to develop and refine my personal style.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I don’t have any favorite authors to read, but my favorite genres to read are historical fiction, horror, psychological thriller and Sci-Fi. There is not a specific person who inspires me in my writings, but I draw inspiration from the most special experiences I lived or the most particular news I hear about.
Tell us a little about your latest book?
This is the plot…
“2010: A young woman steps away from a bridge, choosing to live. 2011: The young woman is informed that a creature has been tasked with convincing her that she made the wrong choice. She also learns that she herself has been tasked with preventing the appearance of a monster that is linked with the creature. The young woman doesn’t have much time to succeed in both missions. But she’ll do the only one thing that the other candidates taken into consideration won’t do… right?”
I don’t want to say much more to avoid spoilers, but I can say that, in spite of the book consisting of not overly long paragraphs written with an apparently simple style, I portrayed very multifaceted characters and locations that are rich in details. I also managed to write great action scenes! Despite the disclaimer that I thought it really necessary to add, there are a few uplifting moments, or moments made less sad or scary by the irony that pervades the whole book.
The person who made the cover of this book (which is available here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CM1KPJ38) also made a trailer that captures the main atmosphere in which you will be immersed during reading: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_1BJRxq6ELo
It took me approximately four years to write this novel, and most of it was already written down in full lockdown. I would have proceeded more quickly, but I preferred to give priority to my work and my health, and I was eager to speed the whole process up whenever I had free time.
