Featured Interview With Charity Tober
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
My name is Charity Tober. I was born raised in Tennessee (in a small town outside Nashville) and ended up moving to Florida when I was 15 years old. After high school, I attended college at the University of Florida where I earned a BA in Business Administration. I currently reside in Lake Mary, Florida (North Orlando area) with my husband, son and two furry cats.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I have had a love for books and reading for as long as I can remember. I have fond memories of spending countless hours reading the “Babysitter Club” series when I was young. I also enjoyed creating my own stories complete with illustrations. I continued to jot down story ideas over the years and eventually entered the self-publishing world in 2013 when I published my first children’s picture book titled “Roly-Poly Monster.” I followed up in 2014 with the sequel “Roly-Poly Monster Goes to the Zoo.”
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I usually read a wide-variety of genres. Currently I seem to be drawn to the every popular YA genre, reading titles dealing with vampires, dystopian, apocalyptic and paranormal themes. However, I also love a good period piece (think Pride and Prejudice), chick lit and science fiction (told you I read a wide variety of genres). When it comes to children’s literature, I would say that Dr. Seuss continues to be a favorite of mine as well as an inspiration. He published so many great books for children, ones I remember reading when I was young and now get to read to my own child.
Tell us a little about your latest book?
Children’s picture books are a personal favorite of mine. I currently have two books published – “Roly-Poly Monster” and “Roly-Poly Monster Goes to the Zoo.” Both books follow the adventures of a red, furry little monster as he goes about his day. The focus of the series is on just plain fun and excitement. I based the character after my own son and how he views the world with a sense of wonder and excitement. The stories are based on bedtime stories I created for my son. I am currently working on my next children’s book which deals with a cat and superpowers (that’s all I can give away for now, lol).
