Featured Interview With Camille Cabrera
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was born and raised in sunny California. My two pets and full-time coworkers (I write from home) are two playful cats. Los Angeles always called to me so I have traveled and discovered new places, but in the end I always find my way back home.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I loved books since before I could really read. My mom would sit up with me at bedtime and read me stories from gorgeous picture books. I remember desperately wanting to read so that I could know what happened in a story without having to ask her. Once I learned to read the rest is really history since my love for the written word only grew over time.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
Some of my favorite writers are Agatha Christie, Carolyn Keene, and William Shakespeare. I suppose it’s no surprise that I love to read mystery novels and books full of suspense. The more complex and unpredictable the plot… the better. Every book that has caught my attention has in some way helped to inspire and expand my writing horizons. Reading works from great authors helps to expand my view of humanity and challenge my perceptions both as a person and as a writer.
Tell us a little about your latest book?
Seven friends set out on a Fourth of July vacation that soon becomes sinister. Paranoia in the group runs high after they hear about the successful cloning of Dolly the Sheep. But is 1996 the first time an animal has been successfully cloned or the first time that the public finds out about the success of cloning? Friendships are tested and motives come into question when a member of the group begins to act differently after adventuring on the island. The situation of once unfounded paranoia spirals into actual terror when people start to go missing.
When it’s almost the millennium… reality is scarier than science fiction.
