Featured Interview With Brianna Stark
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
My name is Brianna Stark. I write romance with an edge. I spend half the year island living in the Pacific Northwest where I do a lot of writing and devouring books. I take a boat to get my groceries, practice yoga, and am learning to play the ukulele. My dog is a three-pound Pomchi and we go everywhere together. I grew up in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
When I was a teenager I wrote poetry. I had a career as a contemporary dancer before I wrote my first novel in my early thirties.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
When I started the Driven Dance Theater series I didn’t read a lot, especially while writing. Now, I keep up with the top books in the new adult, romance, and sports romance genres. I read a lot and everything I read influences me. I love Elin Hilderbrand’s writing style even though it is very different than what I write. My favorite genre is contemporary romance. I also love non-fiction books.
Tell us a little about your latest book?
My latest book is called LIGHTS UP: A Driven Dance Theater Novella. It’s an introduction to the Driven Dance Theater series. LIGHTS UP is about a young dancer struggling with stage fright in New York City. She resists falling for her best friend’s crush, a celebrity chef, when he helps her overcome her fears.
I used to be a professional dancer and I wanted to write something to bring people inside of that world. I also wanted it to be entertaining, so I decided to make it a romance series. I love the tension and emotion the romance genre allows. My idea was also to write something slightly more edgy and fashionable than the typical romance, because it is something I would like to read.
