Featured Interview With Barry K. Nelson
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was born on July 10th, 1959. I’m 55. Soon to be 56. (But I’ve often been told that I look a lot younger.) I was born in McKeesport. But I live in a town called Clairton. It’s just a few miles from Pittsburgh. My interests are X-Box 360 gaming, gardening, movies, writing, reading, Marvel comics. I have no pets.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I’ve always had an interest in books. Even at a very early age. And when I was younger I was always good with writing. I started writing on a professional level when I was in my late 30’s. That was when I finally took myself seriously as a writer.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
My favorite authors are Stephen King, Ray Bradbury. My favorite genre is science fiction and horror. And I’m also a long time Marvel comics fan. I’ve been reading and collecting comics since I was in my teens. My inspiration for my writings are Rod Sterling, Gene Roddenbury, George Lucas, and Stan Lee.
Tell us a little about your latest book?
My latest book is called Obliteration. McKenzie Files book Three. It’s the third book in my McKenzie Files science fiction series. In this latest installment my three main characters, Colin McKenzie, Diane Christy, and Kelly Lytton are sent off to a far off quadrant of space in search of a missing task force of explorer ships. That’s where they face an insectoid race of aliens called the Tritians. As well as a military force of hostile humans. And a being who proved to be their most powerful enemy yet. A being called Deevor the Destroyer. I will be concluding this current story in the next installment, which I expect to have completed by the end of this summer. I’m planning to put out a total of 30 books in my series.
