Featured Interview With Ashley Brandt
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was born and raised in Southern California. I relocated with my husband to North Texas ten years ago. We have two young sons and a spoiled cat, along with two shelter dogs and a guinea pig named Buttercup. On occasion, we foster orphaned kittens for the animal shelter.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I have been an avid reader for as long as I can remember. My mom used to read to me every day, and I enjoyed looking at the illustrations and memorizing the words of the book. I used to act out the stories myself, and when I became old enough, I began writing my own stories. It has been a lifelong dream of mine to become an author, and I recently decided to undertake the task.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
My first love was Mary Higgins Clark. She is a classy writer with a flair for suspense. I absolutely adore anything written by Charlaine Harris, she specializes in creating extraordinary characters out of ordinary people and circumstances. Authors like these have inspired me to continue developing my own writing skills.
Tell us a little about your latest book?
My latest novel, Coyote, is a paranormal thriller loosely based on an old Navajo legend. I found this legend (the legend of Ma'ii, or otherwise known as "Coyote Man") fascinating and envisioned the story with a modern twist. I integrated romance and mystery to the plot, addressing the human dynamic of self-exploration and duty versus desire. Adding in a few twists and turns along the way, Coyote draws readers in and captivates them to the final page.
