Featured Interview With Anthony Avina
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
My name is Anthony Avina, and I live in Southern California. Born in raised here, I am now 27 years old and live here with my Yorkshire Terrier named Sammy and my two Black Cats named Batman and Robin. I work as a freelance writer for the online publications On Request Magazine and TheGamer. When I’m not working or writing, I am filming vlogs and other videos for my YouTube channel, Avina Vlogs. I also have a blog where I frequently review other author’s books and post book related posts, as well as opinion pieces.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I was fifteen when I realized I wanted to be an author. I’d always loved reading from a very young age but I was fifteen and in my Creative Writing class in high school when I knew I wanted to be an author. I started writing then but I was twenty years old when I published my first book on Amazon. It was called Death for Sale, and from then on I have been self-publishing.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
My favorite authors to read are Stephen King and Dean Koontz. The genre I love the most is the horror genre, although I love YA and Science Fiction almost as much as horror, (but not quite). Stephen King is the author who inspired me to become an author and his style is something I’ve been passionate about incorporating into my own brand of writing. The person in my life who inspires me to write and inspires my writing choices is actually my mom. I know that sounds cheesy to some, but her strength and absolute kindness have been a constant inspiration to me in my own life, and it has translated into the characters I write as well. She is the sweetest, kindest and strongest person I know, and she also gave me my passion for writing, so she is my biggest source of personal inspiration for my writing.
Tell us a little about your latest book?
This book is actually something I’ve been invested in for the last seven years. It combines the three novellas that made up the very first series I ever wrote, and includes “I Was A Teenage Killer”, “I Was A Teenage Zombie” and “I Was A Teenage Demon”. I wrote it when I was twenty years old, and something I’ve always believed is that being a writer is a constant learning experience. There is always going to be something you can improve or change or learn to do better, and that’s why I decided to go back to this series and re-write it, incorporating new ideas and new styles into the story. I fixed some of the mistakes I made as a young and inexperienced author, and turned this into a much scarier and creepier story that I think horror fans will love to read.
