Featured Interview With Amela Einat
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
.I was born and grew up in Israel, where I live till these days. My subjects have emerged from the background of the problems and the people I met and dealt with during my work.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
Since the beginning of elementary school I was fascinated by the written word. I read a lot of books throughout my childhood, my boyhood and manhood.
I started writing stories at the age of ten or so when I was a fifth grader. But after a short period I panicked from the excitement of my teachers and their high expectations from me to be a writer, and therefore I stopped writing completely for years.
Only when my children were in first grade I went back to write with a sense of thrust for children, youth and adults, and I also published several research books in the professional field of my specialization: learning disabilities and ADHD in children and adults.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
The list of my favorite writers is very long. It’s really hard for me to resist reading any book because I’m very open minded person.
The inspiration for my writing comes from my contacts with different societies, emotional suffer and human loneliness, as well as the cases that I encounter during my work. That brings me the inspiration for writing.
Tell us a little about your latest book?
The relevant book contains interviews with people suffering from learning disabilities and ADHD at different stages of their lives. It’s a glimpse to the students with learning disabilities internal world, their hard times during seeking for work and their dealings with the labor market. The book also deals with the problems they meet in their marriage and their parenting.
A special chapter deals with the connection between learning disabilities and attention deficit disorder and crime. The end of every chapter is dedicated to the rehabilitation training principles for the situations and the stages of life described in it.
The book was written over ten years, and it impacted dramatically on my work- theory and practical reference, for the treatment of people with learning disabilities, their families and teachers. Particularly in connection with the emotional aspect of their lives.
