Beneath the Lotus by Dacota Rogers

Jimmy just wanted to live a normal life—until he found his girlfriend barely alive, bound in his own basement.

As a clean-cut teenager, Jimmy does everything right:
Gets good grades
Stays out of trouble
Keeps his head down

But there’s one thing he can’t control.

With an addict mother chasing her next fix,
a gluttonous father glued to the couch,
twin siblings with unsettling closeness,
and a cold-hearted uncle who delights in others’ pain…

Normal is impossible.

Jimmy has no choice but to endure it—for Pecu.

His baby brother is the only good thing in his life.
The only thing worth staying for.

But when the worst happens to Jimmy’s new girlfriend,
he realizes the horrifying truth:

If he doesn’t act, his family will destroy his baby brother.

But fighting monsters has a cost.

To save his brother, Jimmy may have to become the very thing he fears most.

An unflinchingly bold psychological thriller, Beneath the Lotus will leave you questioning everything you thought about good and evil. With richly drawn characters and a harrowing descent into crime, there’s never been clearer proof of how even the purest intentions can lead to the darkest choices.

Author Bio:

Dacota was sentenced to over 18 years in federal prison for a drug crime when he was 20 years old. This tragic mistake of his was made into one of his greatest blessings. Before prison, he’d never been interested in reading, but with that being the only form of escape left to him he developed a love for fiction. One day it dawned on him that maybe he could write stories too.

He began small, writing short stories that developed into longer works, but he soon realized that he didn’t want to be a short story writer; he wanted to be a novel writer, so he began writing in longer form. While incarcerated, Dacota wrote four novels, a few novellas, and dozens of short stories. Due to good behavior and changes in laws stemming from the First Step Act, Dacota was granted compassionate release, and now he is out of prison and ready to share his stories with whoever will read them.
