Author Bio:
A long career in the English legal world ended in retirement from that world in 2021 and the beginning of a writing career. My writing style has been described as “Charlotte’s Web meets Rumpole of the Bailey” by Practical Pigs Magazine, maybe that is because of my life experience.
I first did temporary work for lawyers in my summer vacations when I began my legal studies in my teens. I became a trainee lawyer in 1978 and a qualified solicitor in 1980. In those days many people assumed a young woman in a lawyers’ office was there to make the coffee and do the copying but I fought onwards. By the time I was married and had a two year old son I was also a part-time judge and in 2000 I became a full-time District Judge sitting in Family and Civil jurisdictions.
Initially my family and myself including my lawyer husband lived in South Eastern England. I sat as a District Judge in North London. However in 2010 we decided to make a radical change. My husband wanted a change of career and I wanted to get away from London. We moved to Northern Lincolnshire to a funny old farmhouse and about seven acres of land.
My husband developed a holiday cottage and camping business and I continued as a District Judge until the beginning of 2021. We live in the Lincolnshire countryside with a house full of cats and a funny dog. We have hens and pigs and friends have horses and geese on our land too.
During my long legal career I was privileged to meet eminent high profile Judges such as Baroness Hale but also to be involved in what to many people were the decisions of every day life. Since retirement I have become a Town Councillor and life has never been so busy.
My books have featured legal themes or animals, sometimes both. I hope readers will enjoy a quirky look at the English legal system or my animal books, often illustrated with my own sketches.
