Featured Interview With Lillian and Dave Brummet
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
My name is Lillian Brummet – I am in my 50’s now, married for 30 years (as of 2021) and co-manage BrummetMedia.ca. The first 20 years of my life were quite unsettled – living in several areas within California and Nevada (US), then BC and even the North West Territories (above the Arctic Circle). Dave grew up in the Okanagan area of BC (Canada), where we met and married some 30 years ago. We now reside in our dream location – in the beautiful Kootenay Region (BC, Canada). We love our fur-kids immensely, and always adopt from shelters whenever there is an opening in our home (when one of them passes on – I’m only allowed 3 dogs at a time, dang it! lol)
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
My mom was an avid book reader – I have memories of her arms loaded with library books so high that they teetered and swayed as she peered over them, making her way home. She encouraged this in me as well and I found that later in life, whenever I faced a challenge I would turn to books. I had a compulsion to turn to the pen whenever I needed to express myself – verbal communications mystified and terrified me (and sometimes, still do). I became a published poet in my 20’s, worked as a staff and freelance writer and a published author just before the age of 30. Since then I have been a talk radio host, blogger, co-author of 6 published books (with hubby, Dave), and I have held professional book and product review positions over the nearly 30 years in the business.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I disappear in fiction adventure, delve into historical fiction with a passion, cling to the pages of mysteries and take emotional flight through poetry and music. My inspiration for writing comes from the need to feel that my life has value, that the time I was given was used well, that I was able to create a positive ripple in the pond of humanity, and the environment.
Tell us a little about your latest book?
We just recently (May 2021) revised our guidebook for authors: Purple Snowflake Marketing – How To Make Your Book Stand Out In A Crowd (370 pages). I’m super proud of this guidebook, and in fact I use it every single time we release a new book. The title, Purple Snowflake Marketing, was chosen intentionally. With over a thousand books published every single day, authors need to get creative in order to make their book stand out like a purple snowflake in a snowstorm of published books. Earlier this year in Feb, we published our cookbook: From One Small Garden – Over 300 Delicious Nutritious Recipes. I’m currently working on a trilogy of Dave’s late-father’s written works, and we have 2 other manuscripts waiting in the side-lines.
