About 24 Thoughts For Christmas by James Smart:
December has rolled around yet again and the 25th of the month dominates our thoughts and plans. We can barely see the wood for the Christmas trees. The task of shopping for gifts and throwing up the decorations begins. Then there is the logistics of planning the family visiting schedule, and thinking creatively about what can be done with a turkey, while still trying to enjoy the process. Finding headspace to contemplate the ‘reason for the season’ becomes another item which falls off the end of the festive to-do list.
With this devotional it is my hope that as the days count down you are able to take time to think upon the deeper meaning of Advent – a meaning which easily gets obscured by the glare and noise of our usual attempts to make Christmas special.
Pause for a moment and see how the traditional and modern elements of Christmas show that the birth of Jesus Christ a long time ago in a country far, far away is relevant to your life here and now.
