Featured Interview With P. H. Solomon
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was raised in North Alabama, however, I lived on Lake Superior in Michigan and Portland, OR for short stints as a kid. I currently live in the greater Birmingham, AL area with my family. I strongly dislike yard work and sanding the deck rail. However, I perform such duties to maintain a nice home for my loved ones as well as the family’s German Shepherds. In my spare time, I ride herd as a Computer Whisperer on large computers called servers (harmonica not required). Additionally, I enjoy reading, running, most sports and fantasy football. Having a degree in Anthropology, I also have a wide array of more “serious” interests in addition to working regularly to hone my writing.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I was in grade school when I became fascinated by The Hobbit and my reading expanded from there to The Lord of the Rings and beyond.
I started writing as I transitioned from high school to college several decades ago. There were several fits and starts along the way but the original book became The Bow of Destiny which I finally published in 2015.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
Fantasy is definitely my favorite genre though I stray all over the reading landscape (though there are several genres I never read). My favorite author is Tolkien because his work got me really hooked on reading. Other writers I like are C. S. Lewis, Ursula K. LeGuin, Patricia McKillip, Anne McCaffrey and Robert Jordan to name a few.
Tell us a little about your latest book?
The Bow of Destiny is an epic fantasy tale which begins The Bow of Hart Saga. Athson has witnessed the destruction of his village and suffers from PTSD-like symptoms. As a young man, he is drawn against his will into an adventure to find a mythic bow that Hastra, a mystic Withling, claims is his destiny to find. Along the way, Athson must discover the secrets long hidden by his family for generations and why. But he’s hunted by Magdronu the dragon and his wizard henchman, Corgren, who wish to thwart the prophesies against them involving the Bow of Hart.
