Featured Interview With Nicholas Fisher
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I am a college professor of English and I love edgy fiction! I grew up in Broomall, Pennsylvania and I currently live a few minutes away in Wynnewood. My dog is a nifty little King Charles Cavalier spaniel, and my son Max is a freshman at Arizona State University.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I started being fascinated with books when I first picked up The Lord of the Rings. Since then (middle school) I went over from fantasy more to horror fiction, and through the years have read every Stephen King book. When I teach writing however, even to horror writers, I try to convince them that love is the all-time best motivator for good fiction.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I like Stephen King of course, Thomas Harris, and in terms of young adult I have always appreciated those like Louis Sacher, Lois Lowry, and Sharon Draper. I like classics and current books. My favorites have deep character portraits and a psychological edge.
Tell us a little about your latest book?
Becky’s Kiss is my first young adult piece. It is a paranormal romance with a baseball them and a lot of surprises. It has the pretty yet klutzy 9th grade girl (named Becky Michigan) in a new school trying to fit in, and a mysterious boy named Danny who it seems only she can see. Becky falls in love and also begins showing talents in baseball she never knew she had, like throwing a ball at ninety miles per hour. Things come to a head when Danny asks her to meet him on the abandoned ball field behind the high school at midnight where all secrets will be revealed.
The book took a year to write and it remains one of my favorite works.
