Featured Interview With Howard Kaplan
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I’m a writer who has had some luck. My novel of romantic suspense, The Damascus Cover, has been adapted as Sir John Hurt’s last film. It also stars Jonathan Rhys Meyers (The Tutors, Bend it Like Beckham) and Olivia Thirlby (Goliath, Juno). In theaters summer 2018
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I was an overweight, shy child so I stayed in my room a lot read and watched TV. My parents were East European immigrants not well versed in America, the typical immigrant story trying to survive and raise a family so I was mostly on my own. I lived a love in my imagination and stories.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I read a wide range of fiction, not too much non-fiction. I love Jennifer Egan’s A Visit From the Goon Squad. I love these clever titles but can never seem to think up on. Ross Thomas, The Fools in Town are on Our Side adapted from a Huck Finn line. I like thrillers where a romantic relationship is also at the center of the action and part of the plot rather than relegated to when the main character goes home.
