Featured Interview With Harry Martin
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
Born in 1967, I grew up in the suburbs of Pittsburgh, PA. After getting married and having two boys, my family and I moved to the Roanoke, VA area, where we live today. My interests have been computers, writing, chess, and creating animations. When I was in high school, I was torn between becoming a writer or a computer programmer. Although computers won out, the desire to write stories never left me. Along with being a computer programmer, I have also taught computer skills, ranging from how to use Microsoft products to programming using Java. Mysteries and mystery novels have always fascinated me. The Hardy Boy mysteries were one of my favorites when I was growing up.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I have enjoyed mysteries since I was in grade school and I started writing short stories when I was in high school.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
Franklin Dixon’s Hardy Boys mysteries inspired me the most.
Any mystery whether it is in book form, tv series, or movie is enjoyable to me.
Tell us a little about your latest book?
“Escape World Peace” is a mystery about the end of the world and a politician that takes over, after many people suddenly disappear. He promises world peace but, as the main character Johnnie finds out, this politician is really after something else. Johnnie first encounters this new leader while being chased by an angry mob.
Strange things happen to Johnnie. For instance, he almost gets run over by a car that had no one in it. Suddenly he is not allowed into his work place or bank to pay his car payment. Two strangers approach him with a warning and his Uncle forbids him to socialize with the neighbors.
This book took me several years to write.
“Remembering September 11, 2001” is a poem, in e-book form, I wrote to honor those who died in the terrorist attacks.
I wrote this in a day or two for a class assignment I was doing, for art class. (I was studying to become a teacher, at the time.)
