Featured Interview With Cliff Yeargin
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was born & raised in the South, rural Northeast Georgia and grew up on cattle farm. I studied Journalism at the University of Georgia and that led to a long career in TV Broadcasting, the bulk of it covering sports. I have been fortunate enough to be able and cover a ton of major sporting events from World Series, Super Bowls, Final Fours and more. I switched over to the ‘Dark’ side about a decade ago and now work as an Editor/Producer for CNN in Atlanta.
I currently live in downtown Atlanta and even though I didn’t bring the cattle with me from the farm…the house is overwhelmed by Dogs & Cats who rule the place.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
It wasn’t books that started my love of writing. It was a teacher. In a poor rural school there was one person, my high school English teacher, Ms. Ester Johnson, who saw a spark when I was in her class and lit the fire under me to love the written word. Most of my work meant writing for TV, writing fast, on deadline and turning out material in bunches…so the fiction writing allows me to slow down, spend time enjoying the process AND…fact don’t get in the way!
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I will read anything…still read newspapers when most don’t…but among Authors, I got hooked on mysteries by reading Robert Parker’s Spenser series. Now I love to read Ace Atkins, James Lee Burke, and many more. I love mysteries and I love books that have a great setting and atmosphere.
Tell us a little about your latest book?
The newest book is MudCat Moon, the 3rd book in the Jake Eliam ChickenBone Mystery series. The series follows Jake, a former minor league baseball player who spends his time in a rail yard neighborhood known as ChickenBone making baseball bats by hand. When money runs low (which is often) he turns to his best friend Catfish, the owner of the legendary 3 PIGS BBQ who comes up with jobs for him as a private investigator. In this book, Catfish, a former college football star at GEORGIA gets Jake hired to play bodyguard to a beautiful young network sideline reporter as the Bulldogs face ALABAMA in the biggest game of the year. What should be an easy day turns into a blocked punt set off by greed and deception. The trail ends up at the Dixie Dew Pickle Factory in the mountains of North Georgia and Jake and his rag tag tea of misfits have one last play to avoid being permanently benched.
