Featured Interview With Apollo Blake
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I’m 21 years old and I was born and raised in Saint John, New Brunswick, where I still live. I have five cats (we recently took in a stray) and a dog. I’ve owned dozens of dogs over the years, as well as two finches, a rabbit, and some turtles.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
Very, very young. I was writing ‘books’ for my grandma when I was six–folding sheaths of paper in half and making picture books out of them. I didn’t become serious about writing as a career until I was twelve; I’d just started my Twilight phase, and I heard an interview with Stephanie Meyer where she said she’d never written anything before writing the Twilight Saga. It suddenly clicked for me that normal people could become authors, and tell stories for a living. I knew what I wanted to do right then and there.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
Paranormal romance, ever since my aforementioned Twilight phase! There’s definitely something alluring to me about young people just starting to discover who they are who find themselves drawn into a magical world after falling for an otherworldly being. I think I’ve always been drawn to the darkness and the intrigue of it, you get the thrill of first love alongside self-discovery, which are both amplified with magic and monsters!
Tell us a little about your latest book?
My latest release is a novella called Forsake This Violent World. I’d describe it as ‘Spirited Away’ meets ‘Kill Bill’ in a dark fantasy adventure featuring living mansions, mirror portals, shape-shifting gods, and blood magik. It’s a very strange little story and I was very happy with the end product.
