Few men walk into shadow. Fewer walk out.
Giaco, famed battle hero turned bodyguard, is a Reborn man. He believes in reason, harmony, and intellect, and leaves magic for the foolish and superstitious. But when his charge, young Prince Luca, is stolen away, Giaco must go on a search that will cause him to question everything he believes. The Rebirth is changing the face of La Città dei Fiori, but the old ways still hold sway, especially in the dark places of the city. In order to get Luca back, Giaco will have to undergo a different kind of Rebirth—one of fear and shadow.
Set in a fantasy version of Renaissance Florence, “The Shadowy Man” combines magic, mystery, and fortune-telling in a mix that will appeal to fans of historical fantasy and all things Italian. It is the first story in the Giaco & Luca series but can be read as a standalone novella.

E.P. Clark starting writing fiction as soon as she deigned to learn to read, which was not particularly early–she spent a good deal of her childhood doing more important things, such as pretending to be a unicorn. Slightly later, she wanted to be a world-class equestrian. But, much to her surprise, the heavy finger of fate pointed her way and she ended up moving to Russia, which led, very circuitously, to her earning graduate degrees in Russian from Columbia University and UNC-Chapel Hill, and her current employment teaching Russian at Wake Forest University, along with some odd travel opportunities, like almost trampled by stampeding reindeer in Finnish Lapland.
She continued writing fiction throughout all this, however, and has published multiple short stories and novels. She loves hearing from her readers and can be found at https://epclarkauthor.net/.
