I stepped back and out of the moment, shaking my head sober. I was feeling too many things and needed to get myself together. Deciding it would be best to leave, I went for the door but couldn’t bring myself to open it.
“Where’s my mother?” I said, asking for the last time.
“I know where she is,” she answered. “Everybody knows where she is.”
I wasn’t in the mood for guessing games. And I wasn’t the only one looking for Mom. If I couldn’t get an honest answer from her, somebody would or already did.
“I don’t know who you are, what you want or why you do the things you do,” I said with my back to her, “but you will pay for what you’ve done. And if you’re not here for your execution tomorrow, I will find you and kill you myself.”
She let me have a moment before she spoke.
“No, you won’t,” she answered. “Meet me at the harbor at four a.m. tomorrow. And pack light. We’re going to Africa.”
Max Taylor, a recent amputee and army reject, comes face to face with the terrorist accused of taking his mother hostage and murdering his family. As he discovers a global war is not what it seems, he must make a decision that could change his life, and the world.
