The Modest Proposal Institute series explores the near future of the Western world through the lives of two boys. They are among the first pupils at an old-style boarding school for boys located on a manmade island outside the control of any country. Here boys can be boys, learning and achieving the way boys always have. At first, in book 1, the boys are rivals. By book 2, they have gone their separate ways — one into space, and one to establish cities under the Earth’s oceans. They are no longer rivals but they have a possible rival who has chosen to continue his own path on the world’s surface. The story plays out from the present time to 100 years into the future and covers the collapse of the West economically after the disastrous 2021 recession and the rapid cooling during the solar minimum. The West has become a cold, impoverished place and The Institute is seen by many as being to blame. Beset by internal struggles and external jealousies, the two heroes try to navigate a safe path to a better future in book 2: No More Empires.
The Modest Proposal Institute will be 99 cents from April 25 – 30.

Paul James is a retired engineer who lives near Toronto, Canada. When he’s not reading, writing or taking wildlife photos, he can be found running at the many events around the region. His earlier books, Random Musings: a collection of newspaper articles he wrote through the years, and Diary of a Canadian Nobody, a humorous look at family life during the days of downsizing and 9/11, can also be found on Amazon. For The Modest Proposal Institute, he has returned to his earliest favourite book genre, science fiction.
