Author Bio:
Native Coloradoan Kaye Spencer grew up on a cattle ranch in northeastern Colorado. Since 1990, she’s lived in a small, rural town located in the heart of the infamous Dust Bowl area of the 1930s in southeastern Colorado. Kaye writes mostly western romances.
Louis L’Amour’s western novels, Marty Robbins’s gunfighter ballads, and western movies and tv shows inspired her love of the American Old West—truths and myths alike. Kaye’s favorite movie line is from Quigley Down Under: “I said I never had much use for one. Never said I didn’t know how to use it.” (This is exactly her relationship with her kitchen.)
During Kaye’s younger years, she followed the amateur rodeo circuit and experienced life on the thoroughbred racetrack. She even did a stint as a cleaner of sugar beet storage silos (after beets are processed into sugar) to keep down the sugar dust in order to minimize static electricity. Otherwise… BOOM! As a single mother, she did manage to find less-explosive jobs to support herself and her three young children.
Having had enough of ‘odd’ jobs, Kaye entered college to earn a B.A. in teaching. The degree landed her a position as librarian for a 90,000-volume children’s library. After that, she returned to college for her M.A. From there, she worked as a teacher of students with special needs, school psychologist, 6th– 12th grades English and history teacher, principal, and director of exceptional student services. Some thirty-five years later, she retired. She is fortunate to be able to spend a lot of time with her family. Many rescued and homeless animals have found a home with her, and more are always welcome.
