About The Chocolate Pilgrim: A Journey of Self-discovery and Transformation on the Camino de Santiago:
I am passionate about walking, the great outdoors, and chocolate. In the spring of 2009 I made a commitment to walk 800 kilometers through Spain; I was accompanied by my husband and our adult son. When I began my walk I was full of big questions, one of them whether or not I’d stay in my marriage. I was searching for answers. What I didn’t expect to find was myself. A walk that long gives a person a lot of time to think. My mind dished out big lessons around forgiving my mother, making a decision about my marriage, and honoring myself as a parent. One step at a time is how I completed the Camino de Santiago and learned to love myself after all the years of inner self-hate.
When I walked the Camino across northern Spain in 2009, I had no intention of writing about my experience. However, once I returned home I felt an insistent need to put my journey into written stories. Over time, a clear theme emerged in my writing about lessons learned. I also made a commitment to re-create the day-by-day journey for my readers, so they can walk along with me. Whether you have walked the Camino or not, this book will give you a glimpse into the daily life of a pilgrim. Your life may be transformed by the journey.

I was raised in a small town in northern Alberta, and I now live on Vancouver Island, Canada’s west coast. Spoiler alert – I’m still married – we have two adult children who also live on Vancouver Island. I love where I live, since there are many beautiful natural areas that are easy to access. I am inspired and nurtured by nature, so this is a wonderful place to call home. I have no pets, but I occasionally look after other people’s cats. I’ve lived my life by saying “hell yes” to the great opportunities that come my way. It hasn’t been a linear path, and my adventures are far from over.
