About RIDING SHOTGUN: A Journey Through America:
George and Kirby are unhappy dorm dwellers at CU-Boulder’s Baker Hall. Both have received poor midterm grades, and both are sick of the weather after being hit by a series of snowstorms. George suggests a road trip in his Pontiac Catalina. Kirby likes the idea, and the duo sets out for parts unknown in the west. They encounter challenges in rough and tumble Grand Junction and greasy spoons that harken back to the Wild West, on their way to Las Vegas. From there, the journey becomes a cross-country romp to Fort Lauderdale for Spring Break. Along the way, universities in the South provide ample diversion for the pair, including LSU, Loyola University of New Orleans, and Southern Mississippi University in Gulfport. Crazy Mark Harris, a drug smuggler, joins the undergrads briefly and inspires them to visit a house of ill repute. Upon their return to Boulder, George drops out. Kirby summons the courage to talk to his dream crush in Physics class. Kirby realizes his experiences on the road pushed him from naive boy to man.
