About Fibromyalgia? The Research Patients Actually Need to See by Peter Gates:
Built from over a decade of one patient’s own investigation into his symptoms, this book argues that “fibromyalgia” too often becomes a ceiling, a label that stops doctors looking for the treatable conditions underneath it. Instead of taking that label at face value, it breaks the condition down symptom by symptom and asks a simple question: what else could this be, and what does the actual evidence say?
What makes this book different is that the research is built into the page. Fifty-two live links connect you straight to the studies, so you are never asked to just take the author’s word for it. You see the evidence for yourself. It also gives you templates to take to your doctor, the questions worth asking, and a way to advocate for proper investigation rather than a lifetime of masking symptoms.
It is written for patients, but works just as well for anyone researching fibromyalgia seriously: family, carers, even clinicians. If you have been handed the fibromyalgia label and told that is the end of the road, this book is proof that it does not have to be.

Author Bio:
Peter Gates is a Scottish author from the Highlands who has lived with fibromyalgia and chronic widespread pain for decades. He began writing as a way to release years of built-up trauma, work that became his memoirs. Failed by a system that treated a label instead of his symptoms, he turned to his own research for the answers no one was giving him. That research led to two evidence-led fibromyalgia books: a shorter first book, the one he wishes someone had handed him when he was first diagnosed, and this second volume for readers who want to see the research for themselves. He also writes Scottish crime fiction, including the Blood on the Clyde trilogy. He is dyslexic, and treats his circumstances as part of the job rather than a barrier to it.
