Featured Interview With Vito Ravenwood
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
My name is Vito Ravenwood, and I write atmospheric mystery and supernatural fiction. I was raised and currently live in the heart of the Ukrainian Carpathians—a region filled with ancient legends, dense misty forests, and deep solitude, which serves as the primary inspiration for my stories. The wild mountain nature surrounding me feels like a constant, living companion in my daily life and creative work.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
My genuine fascination with books really took off during my college years. That was also when the idea of writing my own book first came to me. However, it was a long journey from those early ideas to actual execution—I only recently finished writing my very first book.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
My favorite genres to read are supernatural mysteries, psychological thrillers, and gothic fiction. When it comes to authors, I’m deeply drawn to J.R.R. Tolkien for his monumental world-building, Arthur Conan Doyle for his brilliant suspense and atmosphere, and H.P. Lovecraft for his mastery of the eerie and unknown. In my own writing, I draw heavy inspiration from Carpathian folklore, classic gothic tales, and dark mythology where nature itself acts as a living, mysterious character.
Tell us a little about your latest book?
My supernatural mystery novel, "The Song Over the Black Lake," takes readers deep into the Carpathian Mountains—to places where locals never venture after sunset. The story begins when a girl vanishes without a trace from a remote village, and days later, a drowned man is found on the shore of Black Lake, far from the water yet with his lungs filled with lake water.
Inspector Elias Korven is used to hunting killers among the living and relies on rational facts. But as the investigation leads him deeper into the forest, he faces a terrifying truth: the ancient Carpathian legends are not mere folklore, and the greatest danger is discovering they have been true all along. It took me three months of continuous, intensive work to write and bring this dark, atmospheric story to life.
