Featured Interview With Steven Hauer

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I am Steven A. Hauer, author of One Inch Between Life and Death. I write from lived experience, faith, and the hard lessons that come from surviving a life changing accident and rebuilding afterward. My work centers on perseverance, purpose, gratitude, and the reality that life can change in a moment. I am focused on sharing a true story that I hope encourages people who are facing hardship, uncertainty, or the need to start over. At this time, I have written one published book, and I am continuing to build from that foundation as both a writer and storyteller.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
My interest in books grew over time, especially as I came to appreciate the power of true stories that can change how people see life, hardship, faith, and purpose. I would not say I followed a traditional path of becoming a writer at a very young age. For me, writing became important when I realized that lived experience can carry a message worth sharing. I started writing seriously when I felt called to put my story into words, not just to document what happened, but to create something that could encourage other people who are facing pain, uncertainty, or the need to rebuild their lives.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I am especially drawn to memoir, inspirational nonfiction, faith based writing, and true stories of survival, endurance, and personal transformation. I respect authors who write with honesty, humility, and emotional truth rather than trying to sound polished for the sake of appearances. The kind of writing that inspires me most is the kind that leaves the reader stronger, more grateful, and more aware of what really matters. More than any one famous name, I am inspired by stories that are real, courageous, and rooted in meaning.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
My latest book, One Inch Between Life and Death, is a true story rooted in a life changing event that forced me to face survival, suffering, faith, healing, and the long process of rebuilding. It is a memoir about how quickly life can change and how even the darkest moments can carry meaning, perspective, and a reason to keep going. I wrote it to tell the truth about what happened, what it cost, and what it taught me. My hope is that readers will come away with a deeper sense of gratitude, resilience, and hope, and with the reminder that one moment can change a life, but it does not have to be the end of the story.
