Featured Interview With Renald Iacovelli
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was born in New Jersey and currently live in NYC. I have no pets, though I like dogs immensely.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
My interest in literature began when I was sixteen and I began at about the same time. By the time I was in my first year of college it was the only thing which interested me–which is why I flunked out, having no patience for anything else.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
My favorite authors are Thomas Carlyle, Thomas Macaulay, and John Ruskin. You will note that none of these are writers of fiction, or at least not primarily, but their literary artistry is magnificent.
Tell us a little about your latest book?
My Life as a Gorilla is about a man who is facing death by way of a terminal illness. His only hope of survival is to undergo experimental head transplantation. However a human body is not immediately available and so he reluctantly agrees to have his head temporarily transplanted onto the body of a gorilla. The transplant proves to be a success but now he must deal with the dissonance between mind and body, and the reactions of others. My Life as a Gorilla explores the ethics of advanced medical procedures and the fragility of human identity.
