Featured Interview With Raine Fielder
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was born in a small town in West Virginia. And I still live there. I have two houses now that I'm married. I have two dogs, one is a yorkie and his daughter is a yorkie/shih tzu. They are named Nygma and Quinn. I named them after batman villains. The Riddler Edward Nygma, and Harley Quinn. I also have a step-cat named Sparta that lives at my husbands house. I started writing poetry at the age of eleven. I have had four articles published by thought catalog and several by vocal where three of my short stories were chosen out of thousands to be a ‘top story’ and two honorable mention awards. Published a short story in “Siren Song Press”, one in “For Page and Screen”, and two poems in “The Anti-Misogyny Club”. In addition, I have written several poems, song lyrics, angry Facebook rants, short stories and ten books. I recently picked up a certificate in Literature focused on Shakespeare from Harvard University.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I don't remember not loving to read. And I would write a lot even as a little kid. I said I started writing at eleven because that is when I wrote my first real poem. Before that it was class assigned stories or just little snippits.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I love reading Stephen King, Charles Dickens, Agatha Christie. I love Thomas Harris (Hannibal series). I like the classics, Poe, Shakespeare, etc. My favorite modern Author is Gregory McGuire, Author of "Wicked" (the book, not the musical) I did enjoy the movies though.
Tell us a little about your latest book?
My latest book is called "Skin Deep". Without giving too much away, there is a girl named Kia who gets moved to an island called Buccaneer Bay. Alternatively there is another timeline involving a journal of a young girl from the seventeen hundreds.
In the present, Kia becomes kind of obsessed with a legend of a pirate witch from the island's past. I completely love this story and hope that people read it. It took over a year to write it due to a lot of personal tragedies in my life but I used the book to cope with those as well.
