Featured Interview With R. P. Singletary
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I grew up in rural Berkeley County, South Carolina — just beyond the reaches of Charleston, at least that used to be the case. Atlanta mostly today. Three cats. A dog, his name too precious, R. I. P.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I'm not fascinated with books. That's just it. And frankly, I think the book blahblah turns away a lot of potential readers. All those required reading lists, remember? Of boring-a** books? Shame on them! Haha. I hope I don't get thrown out. I've always been writing. These days we call it emailing. Or, ugh, texting.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I have been disappointed by favorites, and that was my fault. Setting one on a pedestal, you know? OUR TOWN was hard to follow up with, ditto a lot of other stellar works. Heavens knows, but my route can't be put up! 🙂
Tell us a little about your latest book?
It has been called inscrutable, gibberish, genius, unique. Fortunately, not all in the same sentence. I am reluctant to educate the reader too much. There's a lot on the front and back covers to guide, and those images are free on the internet places. Is it science fiction? Or pure literary. Or trauma. Or true sanity. Whose death unstabilizes it all? I wish someone would tell me that.
