Featured Interview With Michael Andrade

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
Well, I was raised in two places really. Fremont, California and the U.S. Army. I live in Mountain house, California with my family. Pets? Oh, yes. A dog. Coda. He's a Blue heeler. I spend more time with him than anyone else. Not complaining. He's an excellent companion. He doesn't hold grudges. He doesn't keep score. He doesn't withhold affection. When I'm deep in writing mode, he'll lay across my foot just to be near me. we're pretty close.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
11 or 12 in junior high. I read The Telltale Heart by Edgar Allen Poe. My mind fractured. I began to consume horror, science fiction, dark fantasy, and mythologies from Greek, Norse, Celtic, and Arthurian mythos. Writing? Oh, I wrote as much as I read. Short stories at first.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
Favorite authors to read? Depends on who I'm reading at the time. But consistently, I'd say Dan Simmons, Stephen King, Nick Cutter, Ray Bradbury. Favorite genre? Horror, science fiction, dark fantasy, mythological works, and historical biographies. As far as who inspires me in my writing, there are too many great writers to list. So many giants. I will say, however, that I have a special appreciation for the writing styles of Ernest Hemmingway and Cormac Macarthy.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
Step To It went live on Amazon in May of 2026. It won an award for Best in Literary Horror. I'm happy about that honor but my true reward is for readers to enjoy it. Step To It tells the story of an ancient intelligence that begins its conquest in the lives of three ten-year-old boys in 1960s suburbia. As the world declines, the boys grow to find their places in the future's drama.
