Featured Interview With Kirana Sidin
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was born and raised in Jakarta, Indonesia, where I still live today with my husband, our five children, and four cats who graciously allow us to share their home.
When I'm not writing, you'll usually find me reading, watching films, or enjoying a good cup of coffee. I love stories in all their forms, whether they're told through books or on screen.
Living in a fast-paced city has taught me the importance of slowing down and being intentional, an idea that finds its way into almost everything I write.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I fell in love with books when I was about seven years old. Reading quickly became one of my favorite things to do, and I think that's where my journey as a writer really began.
I started writing poetry in middle school and experimented with short stories in high school. Later, after my first child was born, I began writing a blog. Like many parents, life became busy, and writing quietly slipped into the background for a while.
Two years ago, I found my way back to it. I started reading every morning before the rest of the house woke up, and before long, I was writing again. The blog returned, the ideas kept growing, and eventually they became my first book.
Looking back, I don't think I ever stopped being a writer. Life simply asked me to pause for a season before inviting me back.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I enjoy reading a wide range of nonfiction, especially books on personal growth, psychology, philosophy, and intentional living. I also love classic literature, particularly novels that explore human nature and relationships.
Among my favorite authors are Greg McKeown, whose work reminds me to focus on what truly matters; James Clear, who brilliantly demonstrates the power of small, consistent actions; and Ryan Holiday, whose books have deepened my appreciation for Stoic philosophy. I also enjoy Rolf Dobelli's thought-provoking insights on decision-making, Brigid Delaney's refreshingly honest reflections on practicing Stoicism, and Jane Austen, whose observations about character and relationships remain timeless.
These writers inspire me in different ways, but they all have one thing in common: they write with clarity, depth, and purpose. They don't simply tell readers what to do. They invite them to think more carefully about how they live. That's the kind of writing I aspire to create.
Tell us a little about your latest book?
Cheers for a Good Life: Strong Mind. Calm Heart. Chosen Life is a reflective nonfiction book about building a meaningful life through intentional choices.
We live in a world that constantly encourages us to do more, achieve more, and become more. This book invites readers to pause and ask a different question: What does a good life actually look like?
Rather than offering quick fixes or life hacks, I explore themes like purpose, character, relationships, self-respect, and personal growth through stories, reflections, and practical ideas.
Readers have described the book as feeling less like a traditional self-help book and more like sitting down with a trusted friend over a cup of coffee. That's exactly the experience I hoped to create, a thoughtful conversation that encourages reflection rather than tells people how to live.
My hope is that readers won't simply finish the book. I hope they'll return to it whenever they need a little clarity, encouragement, or a reminder of what truly matters.
