Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
My name is Gani Jamalzada, an Azerbaijani writer born in 1956 in the Lerik region of Azerbaijan. I spent my early childhood in the village before moving to Baku, where I grew up, completed my education, and developed my literary career. I currently live in Baku. I also have a German Shepherd dog named Rocky, who is very intelligent and an important part of my daily life.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
My fascination with literature began at an early age. By the time I was thirteen, I had already read more than one hundred literary books. I first tried writing poetry, but later turned to prose. My first published piece appeared in 1968 in the magazine Pioneer. Later, during my university years, my first short story was published in the newspaper Literature and Art. That marked the beginning of my serious literary journey.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I enjoy reading both classical and modern literature. For relaxation, I read detective fiction, but for deeper understanding, I return to classical novels. I admire authors such as Gabriel García Márquez, and I am inspired by works like One Hundred Years of Solitude, Farewell, Gulsary! by Chingiz Aitmatov, and other powerful literary works. My inspiration comes not only from authors, but also from life, history, and human experience
Tell us a little about your latest book?
My latest novel is Kiaksar (The Last Battle of Kiaksar). It is a historical and philosophical work that explores power, destiny, and the forces that shape human history. The novel reflects my deep interest in how past civilizations and struggles continue to influence the present. It took several years of careful work to develop the structure, characters, and meaning of this book, as I always strive to achieve depth and authenticity in my writing.
