Featured Interview With f.d.Von/FaRose DéVon
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
My pen name is f.d. Von but my real name is Tiffany, and I am a poet, writer and creative based in London, where I was also born and raised. Growing up between cultures as a black British woman of Angolan heritage has she the way I see the world and, in many ways, the way I write. My poetry is deeply reflective, exploring identity, faith, transformation and the quiet process of becoming.
Outside of writing, I'm naturally a night owl. some of my best ideas arrive in the stillness of the early hours of the morning, when the world is quite enough for me to listen. Currently, I don't have any pets but would absolutely love to adopt either a cat, a rabbit, a turtle or a snake. If I'm blessed, maybe all four animals! I have a deep appreciation for creativity in all of its forms, whether that's poetry, music or creating spaces where people feel seen.
More than anything though, I hate my writing reminds people that transformation is rarely neat, but rather it is necessary and always meaningful.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
My lover books really began during secondary school, around year 8 or year 9. I had two very different friendship circles growing up. One was interested in all the typical teenage things, while the other loved the books, thoughtful conversations and exploring ideas. Spending time with both groups gave me a balance, but it was the readers who quietly opened the door to a lifelong love of literature.
I started writing, in general, when I was about 11 years old. At first, it was music. I would write lyrics before I truly understood that poetry could exist on its own. However, my music teacher encouraged me to embrace both, reminding me that writing could be meaningful, not only to me, but to others as well. That encouragement stayed with me.
Today, I see my poetry on my music as two distinct creative expressions. My poetry is reflective and rooted in themes of identity, faith and transformation. My music exists in a different creative space. Although both come from me, they both explore different parts of who I am and I enjoy allowing each to have its own voice.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
Some of my biggest literary inspirations include Lauren Kate's Fallen series and Reflections of a Man by Amari Soul. Although they're very different books, they both influenced me in different seasons of my life. Fallen captured my imagination as a teenager and introduced me to stories that felt atmospheric, emotional and larger than life, whereas Reflections of a Man encourage me to think more deeply about relationships and introspection.
Interestingly, although I'm a poet, poetry isn't usually the first genre I reach for. I'm actually gravitate towards fantasy and young adult fiction. I love stories that transport me elsewhere, where mythology, romance and imagination intertwines. Books like Harry Potter, Twilight and the House of Night series are wonderful examples of that.
As a writer, though, my inspiration comes from more than books. I'm inspired by Scripture, by conversation, by people, by the quiet hours of the night and by the journey of becoming. I think that's why my poetry often feels symbol symbolic and reflective. I enjoy using imagery to explore truths that are sometimes difficult to express directly.
Tell us a little about your latest book?
Metamorphosis is a poetry collection that explore identity, grief, healing, faith, and the quiet courage it takes to become yourself. Although many readers initially assume it's a book about heartbreak, I believe it's really a book about transformation. It's about honouring every version of yourself that helped you survive, while giving yourself permission to become someone new.
I chose the title Metamorphosis because I don't believe we're meant to stay the same forever. Growth often feels uncomfortable, uncertain and even painful (a lot like a seed hidden under the soil), but I've come to see that every season has a purpose. This book became my journal of that journey.
The collection took around three years to complete, although some of the poems began much earlier. A few pieces were written when I was still a teenager, which means the book catches different versions of me across different seasons of my life. Looking back, I can see my own growth through its pages.
Rather than following traditional characters, the central character is, in many ways, the self. Each poem becomes a conversation between who I was, who I believed I had to be, and who I was slowly becoming. My hope is that readers don't simply recognise me in these pages, but recognise themselves.
If Metamorphosis leaves readers with anything, I hope it's the reminder that transformation is rarely clean and tidy, but it is always worth embracing.
