At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
My love of writing began when I was eight or nine, the day I picked up Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens. Something in Dicken’s world reached straight into mine. I felt an immediate connection to Oliver. It was the first time a story made me feel seen—his loneliness, resilience and quiet hope. That book didn’t just inspire me, it opened a door. I’ve collected several editions over the years, a reminder of where my writing journey began The story resonated with me in so many ways. I connected emotionally with the main character. I now have several editions of this book.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I have several favourite authors from the classics to modern day: Charles Dickens, Jane Austen, Alexandre Dumas, Emily Bronte, Keats, William Shakespear, Sylvia Plath from the classics. Modern day authors: Khaled Hosseini, John Grisham, Dan Brown, Martina Cole, Karin Slaughter to name a few!
Tell us a little about your latest book?
My latest book (my 28th) is called FOUR FOR A BOY (domestic thriller) through the powerful lens of storytelling I shine a light on men's mental health and homelessness. After losing his mother to cancer and watching alcohol transform his father into a violent person he barely recognises, nineteen‑year‑old Dax learns that “home” can be the most dangerous place of all. Forced onto the streets with nothing but a worn rucksack, his grief, and memories that refuse to loosen their grip, he finds regular shelter beneath a bridge on the edge of Gravenmere Town, where over time, night by night, he carves his inner despair into the structure with a flick of his knife: 'It's Too Hard to Live and Too easy to die."
Convinced the world no longer sees him, Dax drifts through Gravenmere Town’s forgotten shadowy corners where hunger bites, memories sting, and hope feels like a cruel joke. Each day becomes a battle against the despair slowly consuming him from within.
But in the stillness of survival between cold nights, his empty stomach, and the ghosts that trail him, small acts of kindness begin to pierce the darkness. Mia, twenty, who is quietly battling her own struggles, works in the local café that he visits when his pocket carries a little change. She notices him. There is no judgement, just quiet unspoken acts of kindness. Her warmth slips past his defences, even as her unhinged ex circles unseen at the edges of Dax’s fragile new world, eager to destroy what little he has left.
As Dax hovers in that hollow space between existing and living, he must decide whether he deserves a second chance at life or whether Hollowmere Lake will claim him like so many before. Can Zak, a local legend, earn his trust and pull him back from the edge? Can Mia thaw the ice around his heart? And might his favourite band help him reclaim a dream he thought he’d buried forever?
Or will a sudden, unsuspecting attack shatter his spirit and drive him toward the lake’s shadowed rim, where the darkness awaits?
A quote from the book:
‘Alive does not mean living.
This is nothingness.
I breathe, but I disappear. My heart beats, but I feel undone.
Empty.
Existing in the quiet nothing.
This is the hollow space, between living and dying.
I feel it now…’
