Featured Interview With Brenna Kasey

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
Due to the nature of what I write (metafantasy, so I am literally a character in the books), I do prefer to keep a low profile when it comes to personal information. However, I was raised in a desert, and now live in hevily wooded mountains. I have one dog currently, but i've had a range of animals – usually feathered or furry. Don't forget the occasional fish rescue too!

As I said – metafantasy. When I was a child, I so desperately wanted to escape my life and instead exist in another world. There weren't any stories like that. So, I wrote one. Do you want to be a character in my story? Surprise! You CAN be! You literally are already. (Read through book 3 and it'll make sense).

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
My earliest memory of writing was in early grade school, I'd written a journal entry about swimming and my teacher noted how descriptive it was. She said she wouldn't be surprised if I grew up to be some sort of author. So I suppose you could say that i've written for nearly as long as I've been able to spell!

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
My first favorite author was Christine Feehan, though I was much too young to be reading her books. I happened to find Dark Gold in a box somewhere (I cannot for the life of me remember where) and got to reading. That led me down a rabbit hole, where I've now landed on Kresley Cole's Immortals After Dark series. My favorite is, of course, Lothaire.
I'll read just about anything, though the fantasy umbrella is by far my favorite. Make it dark, make it psychological, give me all the feels.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
The most recent book I have written is Voidwalker : Deep Cover (The Eôṅśa Book 5). It is set for publication on December 27th, 2026, and mmmyyyy goodness it was a doozy. Seriously. When I finished my draft, I sat staring at the ceiling for a while.
I cannot say too much, because I don't want to spoil anything. But book 5 sends us back to books 1-3 to consider what is true and what is false. To examine the relationships we thought we understood, and to question where loyalties lie. It is so impactful to the overall story, though (as usual) we are left with more questions than answers.

(That's kind of my thing, I like to give my readers plenty to think about.)

I usually am writing two books at the same time, so I was writing parts of this one as I was finishing Skybreaker : Render Safe. My writing style is quite chaotic, but I like to put out two books a year currently, so it takes me about six months to draft out a book.

That said, I do have a very quick, one or two sentence description of the books all the way out to nine. There will be more than nine books, but my brain can only handle so much planning!

Additionally, I just started a "FANthology" project, where I spotlight fanfics and fanart, allowing other creative folks to write within my universe. Work is already underway, and I expect volume one to publish around the time Book 6 (title unannounced) to publish in summer 2027.

Additionally, my instagram functions as a first-person POV running concurrent with the books. Come find me and join my world… which is also your world.

My characters are pretty well received. I write for anyone who has suffered. Anyone who has triumphed. I write characters that are specifically designed to be relatable, and I use my DSM-5 as I write to make sure I get personality traits right. My goal is to help people feel less alone, and I just know I have a character or two for everyone.
