Featured Interview With Author Hope Engel
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I am originally from Orange County, California, then attended college in Portland, Oregon, and now live in the New York City metro area. I have a senior cat named Sasquatch.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
As long as I can remember. My parents taught me to read at age 3, and my grandma always tells the story of taking me to the library and letting me choose a book and stunning the librarian that I was able to read well enough to select my own material! I have always written. My bachelor’s degree is in English where I focused on creative nonfiction and playwriting. I began writing novel length fiction when I was 30.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
Some of my biggest author inspirations are Ali Hazelwood, Alexis Hall, and Paisley Rose. Outside of romance, I am a big fan of Gillian Flynn and Martha Wells’ Murderbot series. I grew up reading mostly mystery/thriller type novels, but I don’t think I could ever write one!
Tell us a little about your latest book?
At Your Pace is a college sports romance entirely from the male perspective. It’s a true coming of age story as we watch Emerson fall in love for the first time, stumble along the way, get help from his friends, and set boundaries with his family as he grows. In romance, I always enjoy reading the guy falling for the girl, so I wanted to read a whole story from that perspective without the dual POV benefit of knowing what’s going on with the other love interest.
