Featured Interview With Arnar Vik

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
My name is Arnar Vik – or at least, that is my pseudonym as an author. I’m writing part time and try to keep my writing and my regular life separate. No big thing, but it makes life easier with my email account and book sales. Born and raised in the countryside in Norway, currently living in Oslo – a great city with four proper seasons. If I ever move away from Oslo it has to be to set up my writing somewhere else, possibly Tuscany.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I have always loved to read and even from a young age enjoyed telling stories. Haven’t really written much before I turned 40 – but now I am addicted! I just need more time off from work…

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I have always loved political crime with a military flare. Jan Guillou is in my opinion one of the greatest writers in the genre, and his books about Carl Hamilton was my favourites when I was young. Tom Clancy and John Grisham goes without saying – and Le Carre of course. But I really read any genre today. There are a lot of great Norwegian writers that inspire me – Jo Nesbø is one of them. His stories are not great but his writing is – and that means a lot. The really great writers – like Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Mark Twain – these guys can make any subject interresting – due to their seductive ways of writing.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
My latest book is ongoing. My first two books – Ospreys and Akula – are out on Amazon now, just translated from Norwegian to English. The third one – Proxy – is the third book in the same series where we follow Erling Ravnåker – police investigator in the Norwegian intelligence service. I am starting to love my characters to the point that I really care what happens to them, but even so – I will probably put Erling in harms way this time too. You get to know him in Ospreys when there is an assassination on top of the Opera building in Oslo. Read it and tell me what you think – I hope you’ll be entertained. I try to write in a kind of Dan Brown’ish pageturning way – but that is harder said than done… It took me two months to write Ospreys and another two months for the follow up – Akula. I guess the third book will take a little longer – but hope to get it out before summer is here. Good reading!
