Kindle Countdown Deal – 30th March to 6th April – Do all children have secrets? Are there secrets that stay with us forever, never to be told? Can secrets change the path of someone’s life?
Set in the 1960s through to the present, Silkworm Secrets follows the story of two best friends who spend their time in a treehouse perched high in a giant mulberry tree. Their favourite hideaway provides a safe place for Bobby, a young boy seeking solace from a disintegrating home life. His best friend Ruby considers it only as a place to play, to raise silkworms and to innocently view the events that take place in the yards nearby.
Ruby’s simple, family life however, is a far cry from what Bobby endures in the house next door and the secrets they share and events that they witness will not only impact their lives as children but also re-connect them as adults. Follow Ruby’s and Bobby’s story through the seemingly innocent backyards of a typical Australian suburb through to the dusty outback of Queensland and onto the peaceful mountain areas of the Sunshine Coast.
Silkworm Secrets exposes the secrets that children keep, the consequences of a troubled family life, but more importantly the endurance of beautiful family relationships and the power of friendship and love to overcome the past.

‘The Shack by the Bay’ was Lea Davey’s debut novel and was released in 2016. It has captured the interest of both Australian and international readers, drawn to the intriguing blend of Australian characters, unique landscapes and story of romance.
‘Silkworm Secrets’ was released in March 2017 and as a work of fiction has been widely praised for covering sensitive issues including child abuse, mental health problems and domestic violence. The overriding story of the novel however, is of the wonderful and loving relationships that exist between many children and their parents.
Lea draws on her experiences gained from travelling around Australia and years spent studying and teaching history to bring together compelling contemporary fiction. Passionate about literacy, she believes in the power of books to not only provide entertainment, relaxation and enjoyment but also to educate readers in both historical and contemporary issues and events.
Lea continues to write and hopes to release new books later in 2017.
