NOWHERE TO HIDE
Raised in an atmosphere of violence and unpredictability, Ellen and Gail Morgan have banded together, survivors of a booze-fertilized battleground, forming a fierce united front against an often cold and uncaring world. When their parents are killed in a car crash, Ellen becomes the mother figure for Gail.
When fifteen years later Gail is brutally raped and murdered in her shabby New York basement apartment, practically on the eve of her big breakthrough as a singer, Ellen is inconsolable. Rage at her younger sister’s murder has nearly consumed her. So when her work as a psychologist wins her an appearance on the evening news, Ellen seizes the moment. Staring straight into the camera, she challenges the killer to come out of hiding: “Why don’t you come after me? I’ll be waiting for you.”
Phone calls flood the station, but all leads go nowhere. The police investigation seems doomed to failure. Then it happens: a note, written in red ink, slipped under the windshield wipers of her car, ‘YOU’RE IT.’ Ellen has stirred the monster in his lair … and the hunter has become the hunted!

I have always been drawn to the darker side of the human psyche in my writing, and all 8 of my novels are suspense thrillers. I like to explore the plight of ordinary women who are at a difficult time in their lives, and are suddenly faced with an external evil force. Women who are stronger than they think they are. My books generally have to do with betrayal and abandonment in some form, and learning to trust again. And more importantly, learning to trust oneself. Almost any good book will tell you something about the author. You can’t avoid it. But first and foremost I want to give readers a roller-coaster ride, one that keeps them on the edge of that proverbial seats and resonates in the imagination long after the last page is read.
I’m also proud of helping other aspiring writers on their journey. I have given courses at UNBSJ and held many writer’s workshops and talks over the years, most recently at the Delta for NBWF Wordspring. I’ve been a tutor for a couple of decades with Winghill Writer’s School, an online school based in Ottawa. Nothing is more exciting to me than when one of my students has their first book published, and nothing more heartwarming than to read one’s name in the acknowledgements of that book as someone who was instrumental in their success, even in a small way.
